Color Grading like Oppenheimer | Rustic Look Lightroom Edit

1–2 minutes

read

Here is a tutorial that has gained popularity on Instagram. I’d like to guide you step-by-step on how to create a rustic look with a description.

This is a building in Helsinki, Finland. The main objective of this edit is to preserve the original earthy colors of the architecture and enhance their richness to match its historical significance.

Before & After

Step 1

The original photo appears washed out, requiring a decrease in exposure and pushing down the highlights to reveal the details of the sky.

The less significant elements such as the cars, road, and pedestrians can be darkened to enhance the contrast.

Bring up the clarity to add some grittiness.

  • reveal details of the sky
  • darken the shadows
  • add grittiness

Step 2

Create an S-curve to further enhance the color contrast.
Lift the blacks to achieve a matte tone look.
Add a slight amount of cyan and magenta to the shadows.

Step 3

To add a nostalgic touch in the color grading panel, apply warm tones to the highlights and midtones while ensuring that the color harmony is maintained.

The blending is set to +100, which allows for a smooth transition between the two colors.

I hope you enjoyed the edit. You can find more of my Lightroom tutorials by searching for the hashtag below.
