Hey it´s Osk here.
I am born and raised in Hong Kong. My photography journey began in 2002. Over the years I have developed my skills through shooting film and digital.
Having the privilege to process my photos in the darkroom makes me understand editing plays an integral part. I am here to share what I learn.
Why? You might ask. Here is my story.
How a toy camera changed my life?
In 2002, on the first day of university, all freshmen were given a gift: a Holga camera. It was lo-fi, with just a few buttons. This toy camera opened the door to my photography world.

My photography education was rooted in shooting analog. During our first year, we learned how to process our black and white photos in the darkroom, involving a lot of trial and error.
I majored in film – lighting, directing, scriptwriting, editing, and eventually working in a production house. Despite this, I never stopped taking photos. I often carried three cameras with me on travel trips. One of them is Holga.

For the 16 years, I have been working in video production, creating fancy graphics that would draw the audience’s attention. However, in this fast-paced industry, I lost touch with myself. Eventually, my body began to protest, forcing me to take a break.
During this recovery period, I reflected on myself. What truly brings me joy? While some find happiness in doodling or playing music, I discovered my greatest satisfaction in editing photos. Bringing photos to life is incredibly fulfilling.

Around that time, a friend approached me to teach her photography. It dawned on me that I have a lot to share, for example, how to approach scenes, select camera angles, and improvise in different scenarios.
Making tutorials is a perfect way to blend my communication skills with my passion for giving back to the community.

Slow down and be in the moment
What I love about photography is the sense of stillness it captures. A great photo is worth a million glances and stands the test of time. Especially when shooting analog, it has taught me to slow down. Each click is deliberate, and it makes you more present in the moment.
There is so much beauty around us, from flowers to landscapes to streets. Recognizing and appreciating them is something I don’t take for granted, especially after covid.
Everyone is a Photographer

For novice photographers, snapping vacation pictures is often the motivation behind buying a camera. However, they are generally dissatisfied with the quality and lack the know-how to edit them afterwards.

With all the equipment and apps available now, I truly believe anyone can do it. What really matters is being able to see the moment and react quickly. Hence, my role is to provide my students with the tools and break it down into easy-to-understand steps.
